Past FAR President Mike Dooley is on a mission. His goal: Spread news about the FAR-backed "Support Homeownership for All" specialty license plate statewide. "We want to reach everybody. We want to reach the entire public. But we're taking baby steps because it only has been for sale for about a year and our funds are limited right now," Dooley says. The plate, issued by the Florida Department of Motor Vehicles, costs $27 more than a standard plate, with $25 going to affordable housing programs. To date, about 2,000 have been sold statewide, raising $50,000. "We've just got to get the word out more and more," Dooley says. "It's amazing how many Realtors even still don't know that it's available." Many high-profile providers of affordable housing are not even aware of the license plate's existence, such as Al Rivett and Michele Reilly, executive directors of Habitat for Humanity St. Lucie County and Martin County, respectively. "I didn't even know anything about it," says Reilly. "That's something we would market to our supporters."
