APPEAL TO YOUNGER BUYERS

The start of the new year is a good time for real estate agents to fine-tune their business to align with the changing demographics of modern buyers and sellers. For instance, the median age of Realtors is 52, while the median age of buyers is just 39. This means that Boomer agents who want to remain successful will need to adjust to the attitudes of a younger clientele. Generation X buyers, for instance, can be demanding; and members of Generation Y may expect an agent to work around their busy social schedules. Additionally, younger buyers – as well as first-timers, in general – are likely to be more ethnically diverse. That makes now a good time for agents to begin posting listings in other languages or to begin looking for clients outside of the country. Realty professionals also will want to pay close attention to single female buyers, a demographic that is growing among the homeowner ranks. To cater to this crowd, agents can arrange first-time buyer seminars for local women's organization or collaborate with a financial planner or tax attorney to sponsor investment seminars for female professionals.
