TO NICHE OR NOT TO NICHE

While many residential real estate professionals consider specializing in a niche to boost income, choosing a focus takes time and thought. Experts note that residential real estate already is a specialty in itself, but they point out that agents might come across clients who want to buy farms or investment properties, for instance. Before deciding whether to direct all their energy on such niches, real estate professionals should work with another agent with experience in those transactions and learn as much as they can. If they decide to specialize in a particular niche, experts encourage practitioners to take professional education courses and achieve real estate designations, such as Certified Residential Specialist or Certified Commercial Investment Member. However, experts caution against a too-quick switch, given that the agents still might have past clients requesting their service.
